What are the Michigan continuing education requirements for architects?

Michigan architects are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education in each biennial period, all in Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) subjects.

Architects who have been licensed for less than 12 months in their first renewal cycle do not need to complete continuing education.

Who notifies Michigan of my completed architect continuing education?

Michigan architects are required to attest to having completed their continuing education upon renewal of their license. Documentation of continuing education activities is required to be maintained by the licensee for a period of 4 years. Architects Training Institute will submit your course completions to the AIA and maintain your records for 6 years free of charge.

Do I need to complete continuing education requirements for my AIA membership?

Yes, as an Architect member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), 18 learning unit hours are required per calendar-year for membership renewal. Of these 18 hours, at least 12 hours must be in subjects designated as Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW).

Are AIA approved classes accepted to renew my Michigan architect license?

Yes, as long as they are in HSW topics.
