How do I renew my Indiana architect license?
A renewal notice will be sent to you in the mail approximately two months prior to the expiration date of your license. It is important to always keep your address updated with the state so you will receive your renewal notice.
I have extra credit hours, can I apply them to the next renewal cycle?
Who notifies the State of my continued education?
It is the licensee’s responsibility to notify the state. You must keep your records for at least 3-years. Architects Training Institute will store your records for 6-years at no additional cost.
How many hours of continuing education are required for architects in Indiana?
All architects and landscape architects are required to obtain continuing education as a condition of license renewal. Licensees must obtain twenty-four hours of continuing education in each biennial licensure period. At least sixteen (16) of the required twenty-four (24) hours must pertain to technical and professional topics related to the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare. First-time registrants are not required to comply with continuing education requirements at the first renewal.
Do I need to complete continuing education requirements for my AIA Membership?
YES, as an Architect member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), 18 learning unit hours are required per calendar year for membership renewal. Of these 18 hours, at least 12 hours must be in subjects designated as Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW).
Can I renew my Indiana architecture license online?
Yes, online renewal is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for most license renewals. Online renewal takes only minutes, and your renewal will be processed and available for verification the next business day.
Are AIA approved classes accepted?
When will I receive my renewal notice?
Renewal notices are sent approximately ninety days prior to the expiration date. License holders with valid email addresses on file will be emailed the renewal notice. Those who do not have valid email addresses on file will be mailed the license renewal notice; this notice is mailed to the address of record with the Board. The Board has no way of knowing whether or not a notice reaches its destination; therefore, when a notice has been emailed to a valid email address or mailed, the duty of the Board has been performed.
