Idaho Architect License Renewal FAQ’s

How do I renew my Idaho architect license?

Applications to renew your license must be made before your expiration date each year in order for your license to remain valid.  License renewal applications are mailed approximately six (6) weeks before the license expiration date. This renewal notice is sent to your mailing address on record. If you do not receive a renewal notice, you may contact the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses to confirm your address and have a duplicate notice sent to you.   The Board will conduct random continuing education audits on a continual basis.

What are the Idaho Continuing Education Guideline Requirements?

Idaho architects must complete a minimum of 12 continuing education hours (CEHs) by their birthdate every year. The content of all 12 hours must be devoted to health, safety, and welfare (HSW) subjects related to the practice of architecture.

Do I need to complete continuing education requirements for my AIA membership?

Yes, as an Architect member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), 18 learning unit hours are required per calendar-year for membership renewal.  Of these 18 hours, at least 12 hours must be in subjects designated as Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW).

Are AIA approved classes accepted to renew my Idaho architect license?

Yes.

I have extra Idaho architect continuing education hours, can I apply them to the next renewal cycle?

Yes, a licensee may carry over a maximum of 6-hours of continuing education to meet the following year’s continuing education requirement.

Who notifies Idaho of my architect continuing education?

The licensee must notify the state of their continuing education. Proof of completion must be maintained for 5 years in case of a state audit. Architects Training Institute will store your records for 6-years at no additional charge.

Does Idaho offer architect reciprocity?

Yes, first you must complete an application for licensure by endorsement. Once completed this application must be mailed to the state with a $100 application fee and a $150 licensure fee along with the supporting documents outlined in the application.
