Colorado Architect Continuing Education

What are the Colorado architect continuing education requirements?

Colorado architects are required to complete 12 HSW hours every year totaling 24 HSW hours by October 31st of odd-numbered years.

Do I need to complete continuing education requirements for my AIA membership?

Yes, as an Architect member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), 18 learning unit hours are required per calendar-year for membership renewal.  Of these 18 hours, at least 12 hours must be in subjects designated as Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW).

Who notifies Colorado of my architect continued education?

Licensees will be asked to attest that you have complied with the requirement to complete CE at the time of renewal.
Maintain your CE documentation, and if audited, you will be required to submit that proof within 30 days.  Documentation must be retained for six years

Are AIA approved classes accepted?

Yes, for the 2018 and 2019 calendar years, an architect shall have acquired twelve (12) CEHs per calendar year totaling twenty-four (24) CEHs. It is not required that the CEH be acquired within the State of Colorado.

I have extra Colorado architect hours, can I apply them to the next renewal cycle?

No carryover credit will be allowed from prior renewal periods.
