What are the Iowa Continuing Education Guideline Requirements?
Iowa registered architects must complete a minimum of 24 continuing education hours (CEHs) every two-years by June 30th. Individuals with last names A-K must renew by June 30th of even-numbered years. Individuals with last names L-Z must renew by June 30th of odd-numbered years.
Do I need to complete continuing education requirements for my AIA membership?
Yes, as an Architect member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), 18 learning unit hours are required per calendar-year for membership renewal. Of these 18 hours, at least 12 hours must be in subjects designated as Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW).
Are AIA approved classes accepted to renew my Iowa architect license?

Who notifies Iowa of my architect continuing education?
It is the licensee’s responsibility to notify the state. You must keep your records for at least 4 years. Architects Training Institute will store your records for 6-years at no extra cost.

My Iowa architect registration has lapsed, how do I reinstate it?
- Complete a reinstatement form. This form is found by logging on to the site.
- Pay the $200 renewal fee
- Pay the reinstatement fee: $100 plus $25 per month or partial month. (Maximum of $750)
- Submit evidence of completing 24-hours of continuing education.
